Middlesbrough right-back Callum Brittain has been ‘hugely impressive’ this season, he says Air sports husband Simeon Gholam.

The Middlesbrough defender has been named in Gholam’s Championship Team of the season so far. Boro dived to draw him signed from fellow second division side Blackburn Rovers last summer and has since become a key member of their starting XI.

The 27-year-old Brit signed a four-year deal at the Riverside Stadium until June 2029. Since then, he has made 25 appearances for them in all competitions this season, 24 of which have come in the league, and has provided five assists from the back.

Gholam has been impressed with his performances in recent months and has spoken out, according to a report from Air sports: “Middlesbrough’s season has stayed on track despite changes in management and Britain has played a big part in that. A modern full-back in every sense, he moves tirelessly up and down the flank, contributing to progress and doing his defensive job without fuss.”

“He is sturdy, athletic and technically sound and fits perfectly into a Boro team that at least looks good for a top six finish. His balance between attacking performance and defensive reliability is hugely impressive.”

Callum Brittain from Middlesbrough catches the eye

Middlesbrough landed in Britain last August for one undisclosed compensation to strengthen their defensive department. He has since made his position at Boro his own in recent months.

The fullback is someone who likes to move up and down his defensive flank and get involved in attacks. He is now an experienced player in the Football League and has played more than 350 games.

Brittain is a reliable option for his current club to call on and they will be happy with their decision to bring him in. Prior to his move, he was a key player for Blackburn Rovers during his three years at Ewood Park, making 113 appearances for Lancashire before leaving for a new challenge.

The Bedford native is a product of the MK Dons academy and broke into their first team as a youngster. Barnsley then came calling in 2020 and he stayed at Oakwell for two years.

What next for Middlesbrough and Callum Brittain?

The Middlesbrough Brit will be keen to maintain his consistent form. He has proven to be a smart addition for Boro this season.

Kim Hellberg was appointed head coach earlier this winter following the departure of Rob Edwards to Premier League strugglers Wolves. The 37-year-old left his position at Hammarby IF in the Allsvenskan to move to England.

His team is in second place behind Coventry City. They are two points above Ipswich Town in third place after 26 games.

Middlesbrough were defeated 3-1 by Fulham at Craven Cottage in the third round of the FA Cup this weekend. Hayden Hackney got their goal against the Whites but they couldn’t progress and are now out of the competition.

Hellberg’s men are back in league action this Friday, aiming to bounce back. They travel to The Hawthorns to play West Brom.
