Marti Cifuentes had made a few changes, but surprisingly not as much as expected. He started Monga, Daka, Choudhury, Alves, Faes, Mcateer and Nelson. Stolarczyk, Thomas, Skipp and Soumare love the starting line-up versus Sheffield Wednesday.
According to the early reports and talk, Jeremy Monga was on his front foot and positive. But the rest of the team is not really in focus from the start. Again, a slow moving team from the start, just like the experience from the Sheffield Wednesday match.
The first half ebbed away, because no teams managed to get the ball in the net. Leicester -Manager Marti Cifuentes decided to make a change during the break and to bring Louis Page for Will Alves.
Leicester had found a route to get the first goal. A large attack by Hamza Choudhury after 54 minutes brought the score to Leicester at 1-0. Then Hamza is involved again a few minutes later, but this time in a negative direction and makes a fine. Stolarczyk saves but cannot save the rebound. Huddersfield’s level, 1-1.

Harry Winks replaces Oliver Skipp after 60 minutes. He strikes with a silky shot from a distance. A great goal of the midfielder, who also seems to be the savior this time. But instead of more Leicester goals, Ashia makes a well-placed shot in the 76th minute. The result is again leveled, 2-2.
Marti Cifuentes brings more changes and puts more power with Bilal El Khannouss and Jordan Ayew who enter the field in the 83rd minute. Stephy Mavididi had also arrived, he had been to the field from the 60th minute.
Leicester had the pressure and possession (60%). Yet players are often greeted so well enough if they get the chance. This game tells a completely different story. The young players are far from the possibility to take or kill a game. Alves and Monga are just two examples, Nelson is another player who has to perform quickly.
The game ends up in penalties. Huddersfield is best on the day of the day and saw Bilal El Khannouss, Jordan Ayew and Kasey Mcate all terrible penalties, not at all at a level that we would expect from full international players. Leicester is from the Carabao Cup, almost before it started.
Valuable playing time for fringe players is wasted. They are thrown out of the window against a Huddersfield team not on their best line-up. Terrible to look and again a knock in the face, which shows that this team is still far from the strong unity that we like to believe is in place.
- Positive
- Two fantastic goals score, credit at Hamza Choudhury and Harry Winks
- Cifuentes trying out new players, but not rewarded for his courage
- Give a debut to Louis Page, nice to see
- Negatives
- Hamza Choudhury again too enthusiastic to make a tackle and to be missing instead
- Playing a team that cannot kill any result against an opposition of a competition below
- Terrible penalties from certain players
