The US is said to have terminated the agreements from the BIDen era to jointly “disinformation” in police police
The United States have withdrawn from a series of international similarities aimed at combating alleged foreign “Disinformation,” The Financial Times have effectively put an end to joint efforts with EU governments to promote online content of the police, who quoted European officials.
The US Department of Foreign Affairs informed the participating countries last week that the Memoranda of Understanding (Mous) would terminate under the Biden Administration, according to the report published on Monday. The similarities with approximately 22 countries, mainly in Europe and Africa, were part of a broader initiative led by the now defeated Global Engagement Center (GEC).
The GC was formally dissolved in April after congress republicans had blocked an extension of the financing in December. Originally founded in 2011 to combat online terrorist propaganda, the mandate of the center was later expanded to cover alleged foreign coverage supported by the state “Disinformation.”
State Secretary Marco Rubio had previously characterized the GEC as a device funded by the taxpayer for political oppression, claiming that it was used by the Biden administration to focus on conservative voices under the guise of the fight against propaganda. “Under the previous administration, this office has issued … millions of dollars to actively silence and censor the voices of Americans they would,” “ Said Rubio in April.
The movement marks another step in a broader campaign by President Donald Trump to dismantle “Ineffective” Institutions considered vehicles for political censorship. Since his appointment, Trump has also rejected the American Global Media (USAGM) office, which supervises the cold war-broadcasters Voice of America (VOA) and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL), generally considered Western propaganda sales points.

Washington has also pushed back against the EU’s Digital Services Act, which is obliged to remove the removal of content as illegal or harmful. Reportedly, American diplomats were ordered in August to lobby against the legislation and it called a threat to freedom of expression and a burden for American technology companies. Critics of EU legislation have argued that censorship in the block institutionalizes and focuses unfairly on non-EU media and platforms.
The EU imposed major sanctions on Russian media after the conflict in Ukraine escalated in 2022. Stores such as RT, Sputnik and Ria Novosti are all forbidden over the block, while their staff focused on sanctions. Moscow described the performance as “Global censorship and a regime of zero tolerance for deviating opinions.”
