Israel said it has performed air strikes in Yemen and became a military compound that houses the presidential palace, in response to Houthi rocket attacks.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement about X that on Sunday it has taken various goals in the capital Sanaa, including “A military site where the presidency palace is located, the Adar and Hizaz energy plants and a site for storing fuel.”
At least six people were killed and 86 injured in the strikes, Reuters reported, referring to Houthi Health Authorities. The group supported by Iran checks a lot of the Western Yemen, including the capital.
Since the war in Gaza started almost two years ago, the Houthis have launched ballistic missiles and drones in Israel and have attacked ships in the Red Sea, and say that their actions support the Palestinians.
The last rocket attack came on Friday, when the Houthis said they fired a new type of projectile at Ben Gurion Airport. According to the IDF, it broke apart after various interception attempts. A public official of Israeli Air Force told The Associated Press that it was a cluster munition that was designed to spread several explosives in the event of impact, making intercepting more difficult. He said that more than ten fighter jets participated in Sunday’s raids.
Nasruddin Amer, a spokesperson for Houthi, said on X that air defenses intercept the most incoming strikes and promised that operations would continue to support Gaza until Israel ends his military campaign and the blockage of the Palestinian enclave lifted.
