Eddie Howe admits that the situation of Alexander Isak is “far from ideal”, but still hopes to see the restless star in a Newcastle shirt after he confirmed the club rejected an offer from Liverpool.
The 25-year-old Swede, one of the most popular properties in world football, had his head running this summer due to the interest of the Premier League champions.
Isak did not travel to Asia for the pre-season tour of Newcastle because of what the club called a “small dijing injury”, only for his accident to appear, together with the fact that he is training in the former Real Sociedad club.
“I think I am very removed from everything that happens at home,” said Magpies Howe, as reported by athletics.
“I became aware that there was an offer yesterday. That offer was rejected before I heard about it.
“There are people back in England who are dealing with the situation. I really don’t know what is going to happen, but from our perspective we still support Alex in all ways, and my wish is still that we see him again in a shirt in Newcastle.”
Newcastle goes back from Asia after the friendly Sunday against Tottenham in Seoul, where Howe revealed that he heard that Isak trained in Spain with his former club through the media.
“I know where he is through the media, so I think it is difficult for me to go into detail from that perspective,” said the said.
“The situation is far from ideal. It is quite complex. I think that is all I have to say.”
