Unai Emery will be well aware that Wednesday’s opponents were themselves on the rise and that they too performed excellently at home. They are unbeaten at the Amex Stadium this season, reinforcing the fact that they are the toughest opponents Villa have faced this side of the November international break.

This is a relatively rare midweek matchday across the board in the Premier League, with three games played on Tuesday, six on Wednesday and one – Manchester United v West Ham United – on Thursday evening.

Villa’s match takes place in the earlier kick-off on Wednesday, meaning we should be ready in plenty of time for a fun early evening. Bunch.
