For those with experience with previous model year Wranglers, removing the doors wasn’t much of a challenge, provided you keep the included tool kit safe. Previously, the doors were attached to the Wrangler using Torx bolts, which had to be loosened and removed. However, Jeep has updated the Wrangler’s doors with a new design, which should make the door removal process even easier.
Instead of loosening the fasteners bolted into the body, the latest Wranglers feature a vertical quick-release pin (called a check-arm pin), which pulls the door out and unlocks it. While there are still some necessary steps carried over from pre-2026 models, such as disconnecting the wiring, the new system should save Wrangler owners a lot of time. However, before you do this, be aware of every condition that allows you to drive your Jeep without doors, and don’t forget about side mirrors. So, what are the steps for removing the doors from the Wrangler with the new design?
Removing the doors from the latest Jeep Wrangler
The wiring harness cover is located behind an inner cover next to the door hinges of the front doors. Carefully remove the cover and then loosen the harness. For front doors, there are two mechanisms that keep the wires connected: a red clip and a white plastic piece that locks them in place. Slide the red clip up first, then rotate the white portion by pressing the lowest point up so it can swing up and disconnect the wires. Finally, locate the pin on the hinge mechanism and pull it up, allowing it to slide out of the hinge. Once both pins are removed, simply lift the door and it should release from the Wrangler. Jeep indicates that this part requires a second person, and given the weight of the doors, that’s probably not a bad idea.
Advantages and disadvantages of working doorless
One big caveat: If you decide to go without doors, you’ll need a secure place for door storage. You don’t want your doors to fall over and hit the floor, breaking the glass. For example, you can use moving boxes to create space for the doors so that any scratches are minimized when you lay them flat. Alternatively, there are also ways to hang them along the wall of your garage, using special hooks made specifically for this purpose. You can find options around $30 at some online retailers. Jeep and some online retailers also make and sell door-specific storage bags or storage racks, but they are a little more expensive.
