WHERE CAN I FIND IT?
To find AFCON Fantasy, simply visit the Sofascore websiteor you can download the app for free.
At the top right of your screen you will see the ‘Fantasy’ tab. Go there.
You should then see a menu of games like the one below. Click on AFCON.

Before you do anything else, let’s review the rules.
Team size
To play AFCON Fantasy, you must create a team of 15 players. Your team should consist of:
- 2 goalkeepers
- 5 defenders
- 5 midfielders
- 3 forward
This team size remains the same throughout the tournament.
PLAYER POSITIONS
Some players have more than one role in real life. However, AFCON Fantasy assigns one fixed position to each player at the start of the tournament.
The game bases this on each player’s performance in recent competitions. Once assigned, that position does not change.
Players only score points based on their listed Fantasy Position, not where they stand in individual matches.
BUDGET
You start with one Budget of €100 million to create your first team.
The money you don’t spend stays in your bank. You can use it later when making transfers.
SHIFT MANAGEMENT
START XI
Every round you have to do one starting with XI from your squad of 15 players. Only players in your starting lineup can score points.
Your starting 11 should include the following:
- Exactly 1 goalkeeper
- At least 3 defenders
- At least 3 midfielders
- At least 1 ahead
CAPTAIN
Each round you must select a captain.
Your captain’s Fantasy Points count double for that round.
LIVE SQUAD CHANGES
Once a round starts, you can no longer make transfers. However, you can still manage your setup.
A player is only locked when his first match of the round begins. As long as you have at least one unlocked player, you can:
- Change your captain to another unlocked player
- Sub in unlocked bench players to start, while following the formation rules
This feature rewards active managers who monitor team news and tee times.
TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE
Each round has a fixed deadline. Your team must be set up before then.
| Phase | Date | Time (CET) |
|---|---|---|
| Round 1 | December 21 | 8:00 PM |
| Round 2 | December 26 | 1:00 PM |

TRANSFERS
The transfer rules change as the tournament progresses. The number of moves allowed and the maximum number of players per team both increase in later rounds.
| Phase | Transfers allowed | Maximum number of players per team |
|---|---|---|
| Before tournament | Unlimited | 3 |
| Group stage | 2 per round | 3 |
| Before round 16 | Unlimited | 4 |
| Before the quarter-finals | 3 | 5 |
| Before the semi-finals | 4 | 6 |
| Before the match for 3rd place | 4 | 6 |
| Before finals | 4 | 6 |
Planning transfers around these limits plays a key role in long-term success.
SCORING SYSTEM
AFCON Fantasy awards points based on real-life performances.
The game keeps track of 30 different statistics depending on a player’s position. Sofascore collects and verifies all data after each match. It may take up to 24 hours for the final points to be updated.
Players also earn points with their Sofascore rating, which reflects overall match performance.
KEY SCORING HIGHLIGHTS
- Goals, assists, clean sheets, saves and defensive actions all earn points
- Cards, own goals, offside and missed penalties reduce scores
- Passing, dribbling, duels and interceptions reward well-rounded players
- Goalkeepers receive extra points for saves, claims and stopping shots
This scoring system rewards consistent involvement, not just goals.
You can find the full list of how to score points here.
