It is a third run to the last four in four years for the team of Anne Kothavong, who are so far confronted with their most difficult test against an American quartet full of talent from the top of the WTA ranking.
World No7 Jessica Pegula is the highest ranked player in their team, and this weekend she will take the first singles place against Great Britain in Katie Boulter.
Emma Navarro, the World No17, will be the opponent of Sonay Kartal in the second rubber.
Pegula has not been out of the top 10 in the world for the past three years and she had reached the semi -final of the recent US open in good shape, until she was defeated by Elena Rybakina in the victory of the US over Kazakhstan in the last eight.
However, she did well with Taylor Townsend in the decisive doubles rubber.
For Boulter, she is impressed by the arrival in Shenzhen and has defeated Moyuka Uchijima in the victory of Great Britain over Japan in the quarter-finals previous time-out.
That was the 17th victory of Boulter of 23 races representing her country, and she believes that GB “nothing to lose” has prior to the last -life confrontation.
“Being in the semi -final is another chance,” Boulter said.
“We have a few world -class tennis players on the other side. They also do not know what we are capable of.
“I think we will all have a free swing and go after them. I am very enthusiastic about this next tie.”
Kartal, the World No82, was beaten by Beatriz Haddad Maia in the first round of the US Open, but Eera Shibahara dominated earlier this week.
These two countries did not play against each other for 33 years in this tournament, with the US who won nine of the previous 10 games, when the competition was known as the Fed Cup.
GB wants to reach a first final since 1981, and they offer this without No1 Emma Raducanu, who chose to play at the Korea Open instead. She was defeated on Thursday by Barbora Krejcikova.
