Pro wrestling star and former MMA fighter Shayna Baszler has hinted that she could be one of the reasons why Ronda Rousey eventually got into the sport.
As we know, Ronda Rousey’s greatest legacy will forever be what she accomplished in mixed martial arts. In the wake of her performance at the Olympics, Ronda had a very strong MMA career, but it ended on a somewhat sour note as she dropped losses to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes. From then on, she left the UFC before competing for WWE as a professional wrestler.
Ronda Rousey was even able to attend the main event of WrestleMania in 2019, becoming the first to do so alongside her dance partners Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair. While her overall run in WWE has received mixed reviews more often than not, no one can deny that Ronda has brought a lot of attention to the product.
Shayna Baszler, who has had a very strong performance in wrestling, said the following about Ronda Rousey’s entry into the business in a recent interview.

“Ronda has said in interviews that she saw me in pro wrestling, fell in love with MMA, pro wrestling, was happy, loved it and therefore fell in love with MMA again. And she has said in interviews that I’ve heard her say that she saw that in me and it made her want to try it. I was the one who reserved the TV in the house we all lived in together, and I went to watch Raw and Smackdown and we go to all the pay-per-views.
“At the end of a hard training day, you guys were doing fighting drills twice a day – you don’t want to move. So Ronda just parked herself on the bench and then I got to wrestling and she got sucked into it. So yeah, I’ll – you know, I’m not saying Ronda wouldn’t have wrestled if it wasn’t for me, but…”
The two eventually had an ‘MMA Rules’ match at SummerSlam 2023, which Baszler won.
