Everything it is worth doing is the saying, it is worth exaggerating.
That of course is not universally accepted as a philosophy of life. But when it comes to John Daly, moderation has never really been his thing. And so you could look at the 19 that he recorded on the Sanford International on Friday and consider it a shame or you could consider it a nod to history, the final chapter in one of the most recognizable golf sizes.
Daly’s 19 arrived at the 12th hole in Minnehaha Country Club in Sioux Falls, SD It was originally and understandably recorded as a 17 before a revision to 19, a score that apparently seven penalty drops and a tin-spy-like shot in the water again, and again, and again and again. The last count, our internet sources, tell us, is a ‘quattaordecuple bogey’, 14 on par on one hole, which took him from 4 to 18, where he would finish the round.
How did he make 19? Unfortunately we have no repetition of the drama, but we do have the PGA Tour app, which shows that Daly found the rough with his t -shirt. Here is what happened afterwards:
Shot 2: from primary rough
Shot 3: Punishment
Shot 4: From primary rough
Shot 5: Punishment
Shot 6: From primary rough
Shot 7: Punishment
Shot 8: From primary rough
Shot 9: Punishment
Shot 10: From primary rough
Shot 11: Punishment
Shot 12: From primary rough
Shot 13: Punishment
Shot 14: from primary rough
Shot 15: Punishment
Shot 16: from primary rough
Shot 17: from primary rough
Shot 18: From the intermediate rough
Shot 19: From Green, in the hole
In other words, it was a lot up and down.
We can of course make a number of guesses. No. 12 at Minnehaha is Known to members such as the “Klifhol” Because of the dramatic T-shirt box views. The Par-5 Doglegs falls to the Fairway and then to the left of Doglegs; A water body runs up the left and then cuts over the hole, creating a forced carrying bag to the green. It feels like a safe gamble that it is where the drama unfolded.

It was the highest recorded score in the history of PGA Tour Champions. It was also the highest in the recorded career of Daly – but not much. According to our research, Daly had already recorded scores of 10 or more at PGA Tour events and Majors at least 15 times, including three 11s, two 12s, one 13, A 14 and an 18.
A few remarkable moments from the colorful career of Daly:
13 at John Deere
An SB -Nation article From 2011, a Tee -shot describes wide right to no. 4 on TPC Deere Run, followed by “a few mpsp to the ball, which it only improves a few meters every time.” Several non-playable lies followed, he finally found a place where he could move forward, he hit him in the bunker, hit him and two became two. Lucky 13.
11 at the US Open
Daly hit a moving ball as part of a Septuple-Bogey 11 on Pinehurst’s Par-4 8th and explained his last American open. His take at that time:
“The US Open is not the wave style of John Daly. I will not go to Pebble Beach (where the US is kept open) next year and also look at the USGA ruin that golf course,” he said. “It is not worth it. This is my last to us – ever. I had it with the USGA and the way they run their tournaments. The USGA likes to embarrass boys who play in their tournaments.”
In reality, Daly returned to the US Open from the following year, where …
14 at the US Open
Do you remember when Tiger Woods won the 2000 US Open with 15 shots? There was also one Memorable 14 That week -from Daly, who shot his tee on the iconic 18th OBrechts, hit two more tee -shots in the Pacific on the left and eventually found the ocean on a approach shot, on the way to no -poor bogey.
18 at Bay Hill
You know no. 6 at Bay Hill; It is the PAR-5 that runs around the lake and it is where Bryson Dechambeau sent the driver all over the entire dogleg and sent the crowd in a frenzy. But in 1998 the large bombing Daly De Green tried to control. He fell short, dropped a little closer, tried with 3-wood, was short and kept trying.
“At that time there was no way to stop,” he said.
The XES
There was also the Australian Open 2011, where Daly – who had already been punished two shots for touching the wrong ball from a bunker – six or seven (reports varying) balls in the water at number 11 in the Lakes Golf Club and then ran. Daly, who had a bit of a history of Dramatic Australian WDsWas not broadcast from another Australian tournament and the tournament director it stated The “last time we see John Daly at this tournament.”
Fortunately there was no scorekeeper At Niagara Falls…
