During his time at the helm of Manchester United, Erik ten Hag aggressively targeted players with Dutch connections.
United’s recruitment team seemed to follow Ten Hag’s instructions without question and brought in players such as Tyrell Malacia, Matthijs de Ligt, Antony, Joshua Zirkzee and Wout Weghorst.
Yet the Red Devils failed to secure all his targets, including Brian Brobbey.
Manchester United wanted to sign Brian Brobbey
Sunderland signed Brian Brobbey from Ajax at the end of last summer for €20 million plus €5 million in add-ons.
The 24-year-old has proven to be a smart addition to the newly promoted side, impressing with his raw power and link-up play. The Dutch international has five goals and one assist to his name in 21 Premier League appearances.
According to Voetbal International (via Sports witness), United tried to sign Brobbey before he moved to Sunderland.
Ten Hag is believed to have attempted to bring Brobbey to United in 2022 on a €40 million contract. However, the youngster decided to “stay sensible” in Amsterdam.
The Dutchman eventually joined the Black Cats, where he now shows why Ten Hag wanted to sign him for the Red Devils.
It is also reported that Brobbey turned down Como but “couldn’t resist the temptation of Sunderland.”
Manchester United have set their sights on the Sunderland midfielder
The Sunderland board should be commended for their astute recruitment, which has helped propel the Regis Le Bris side to 11th in the table.
In the summer they also signed Noah Sadiki from Union SG. The 21-year-old midfielder has turned heads with his athleticism and defensive awareness.
Last month, The Peoples Person published a report claiming that United are interested in signing Sadiki from Sunderland to replace Manuel Ugarte.
