Would you like tips about a reasonably priced and centrally located hotel in Copenhagen, whose appearance is somewhat reminiscent of the Swedish hotels in the ESS Group’s hotel offering? Then Hotel Bella Grande can be a good alternative.
Before mine and Lisa’s visit to Copenhagen tipped our friend Klara (who has lived in the city for many years) about three central hotels in Copenhagen: 1) Hotel Bella Grande, 2) sister hotel Coco Hotel and 3) Grand Joanne. After looking at the various hotel websites, I finally arrived at Hotel Bella Grande. I can’t say whether it was the right choice until I’ve stayed at all the options, but I can at least write a review about the hotel we chose. Let’s see!

Hotel Bella Grande in Copenhagen: a hotel review
#1. Location, feel and general about Hotel Bella Grande
Hotel Bella Grande is located right in the center of Copenhagen and is a nice story with an Italian atmosphere. The pride of the hotel is undoubtedly the restaurant in the large and bright courtyard/piazza, whose unsought Italian atmosphere reminds me of MJ’S Hotel on the Mäster Johansgatan in Malmö.
In other words, if you like the atmosphere of ESS Group’s Swedish hotels, you will have a great time at Bella Grande. The hotel’s gorgeous restaurant, “Donna”, is said to be popular among Danish influencers – no wonder with such a stylish backdrop! For me, though, it is light too many plastic flowers for the feeling to reach all the way through.
#2. Our hotel room at Hotel Bella Grande
With its 109 hotel rooms and suites, Hotel Bella Grande can offer rooms for all possible zodiac signs and budgets. We check into a “small double room” on the fifth floor…
…to be precise in room 525. It is small (about 15-16 square meters) but nice in every way. Best of all is the balcony door that opens onto a small attic corridor…
…overlooking the rooftops of Copenhagen! Our floor also houses the glass roof, whose light adds an extra dimension to the hotel’s stylish piazza.
The bathroom decor reminds me of both Hotel Frantz and Hotel Ruth in Stockholm – which is a nice review. Overall, this hotel has tried to invest in details that will enhance the classic and rustic hotel feel, rather than trying to implement novelties and high-tech solutions. That feeling is already there when you check in at the reception and receive your hotel key, decorated with a burgundy red tassel!
#3. Good to know about Hotel Bella Grande and tips in the area
The hotel is trendy, beautifully packaged (not least the facade and square!), centrally located and reasonably priced if you opt for breakfast – which we do. Overall, though, I miss that “wow feeling” that makes me want to come back right away (a feeling that may have absolutely nothing to do with the price).
- Address: Vester Voldgade 23 (about 11 minutes walk from the train station). The nearest subway/subway is Rådhuspladsen station, which is a maximum of 5 minutes walk from the hotel (more like 2-3 if you walk quickly).
- Price? Since pricing is dynamic, it is difficult to say exact prices. We paid 1780 SEK for a Double Room Small in November 2025. Breakfast cost extra, approx. 370 SEK/person (we chose to have breakfast at a nearby cafe).
- Check-in and check-out times: Check-in from 3:00 PM, check-out no later than 11:00 AM.
