Honey Baisoya took a two-shot lead on the opening day of the RS 1 Crore Kolar Open driven by Zion Hills while the PGTI made his debut on Tuesday at the new location.

Baisoya, from the DLF Golf & Country Club, shot a 4 under 68 to set the course record at the new location in Kolar near Bangalore, the PGTI said.

The 29-year-old, a seven-fold PGTI winner, gave the clubhouse’s lead because the first round could not be completed due to fading light. Eight players in a 126 field had to complete the first round.

A four -way draw for second place 2 under 70 Tendendra Ghai van Gurgaon, Delhi’s Shaurya Bhattacharya, Mumbai Lad Ayaman Aditya Mohan and Sri Lankan K. Prabagaran.

Twice a winner this year, Chandigarh’s Angad Cheema and the second place of last week Udayan Mane van Pune, cards 73s to share 24one place.

Arjun Prasad of Delhi, second on the PGTI order of merit, returned a 76 to be bound 46one.

Baisoya, 16one On the earnings list of the PGTI with four top 10’s in the season, including a second place, a Birdie and two Bogeys had about his first eight holes.

Profitable conversions

He then converted a 12-foot Eagle Putt and added three more birdies and a 35-foot conversion for his second eagle.

He closed the day with three-puts bogeys on holes and nine after he started on the rear nine.

“I would play this course for the first time, I would say, because the fairways on the rear nine are narrow, the key is to negotiate well about the fairways, especially when the wind is used up,” Baisoya noted.

“I feel that my day is changing for the better after I had made a good recovery of the danger to make bogey at 17. I then had a good run and grabbed seven shots on the next seven holes.

“I play well and have been consistent since my second place in Delhi in April. After a good start in difficult circumstances, I will now build on the base from now on.”
