Hometown hero Kenny Mokhonoana takes victory at Cage Warriors 200

Kenny Mokhonoana hoped to get his second Cage warriors victory in his home city of Dublin.

Early in the first round, Mokhonoana secured a takedown and took Ogborne’s back. He controlled the Bristolian lightweight for a few minutes as he headed for a choke. Ogborne escaped with just under a minute left of the round and survived to see the feces. Mokhonoana takes the first round at Cage Warriors 200.

The second round started electrically and both men lunged forward. Mokhonoana caught Ogborne in the eye with a shot that alarmed Ogborne. A little later the Irishman regains control in the wrestling exchanges. Halfway through the round, the Dubliner had switched to half guard, but was unable to do any real damage to his opponent. He attacked a d’arce choke, but Ogborne survived the round again. A late flurry from the Englishman was not enough to influence the round.

Both men were exhausted in the third and the wrestling exchanges were much more difficult at the start of round 3. Ogborne was on top with 3 minutes left of the round and another finish was needed to take the win. Referee Rich Mitchell encouraged both fighters to work as the round started to drag. Ogborne got the back in the final minute of the fight but was unable to find a submission.
