Through Candid Edwards

the motel room was severely damaged within hours of Chase’s check-in.
Former child actor Tylor Chase, known for his role in the Nickelodeon series Ned’s released school survival guideremains homeless and struggles with untreated mental health and substance abuse issues, and a well-intentioned attempt by a former co-star to provide temporary shelter ended in chaos.
Chase, 36, was seen in a viral photo on the streets of California TikTok video. The images prompted the former Ned has been released co-star Daniel Curtis Lee – who played “Cookie” on the series – to drive from Los Angeles to Riverside check on Chase’s well-being and offer help.
Lee shared updates on Chase’s condition and arranged a hotel room so the Nickelodeon actor could get temporary shelter from bad weather during the holidays.
However, according to Lee’s later reports, the motel room was severely damaged within hours of Chase checking in, with the door left open, the refrigerator tipped over, and a microwave found in the bathtub. Lee said motel staff contacted him to report the condition of the room. He said he was “devastated” by the outcome.
“I got a call from management. They’re angry,” Lee said. “The door is open. Why is there a microwave in the bath? The refrigerator is turned upside down. I just feel so devastated. I don’t know anymore.”
Chase’s family previously discouraged attempts to give him cash after a small GoFundMe raised about $1,200. The family believed that his problems required more than monetary sacrifices. His mother said it suffers from serious psychological problems and substance abuse. Money would only make his situation worse. In his TikTok post, Lee says the family has tried unsuccessfully to place Chase. However, he had hoped that the opportunity would help this time.
“I don’t remember, and his family told me they tried the hotel thing before and it didn’t work, and of course, Danny, why did you assume you could just fix this situation.”
Lee’s commentary on the situation changed as the video progressed, bringing light to mental health and being unhoused. He also spoke about the role of government in helping mentally ill, drug addicted and/or unhappy citizens.
“We have all these social systems where help needs to be provided to these people who are dealing with mental health issues, substance abuse issues, right? Taxpayers vote on these things all the time. 5150 exists. A third party should be able to get someone into treatment.” [or] a psychological evaluation to find out what is going on and allow them to detox. I’m just crushed that these systems aren’t working effectively,” Lee said.
Lee’s concerns are valid, as in a report from Congress StatesOn any given night in the US, “a total of 771,480 people were homeless.” The staggering statistics on homelessness are comparable to the statistics on drug addiction; the CDC says more than 100,000 people die from drug overdoses every year. The number does not reflect the number of people living with the disease.
Even though social safety nets are not working efficiently, people like Lee continue to show compassion and empathy for those who have lost their way. It will have to be enough for now.
