The Quinnipiac men’s hockey team has announced the addition of the former Holy Cross Associate Head Coach and Crusaders Player Castan Sommer to the coaching staff for the coming season 2025-26.

Sommer spent four seasons to the coaching staff at Holy Cross under head coach Bill Riga, including the last season as an associated head coach. Before that he was an assistant for the WHL’s Seattle Thunderbirds from 2017 to 2021.

“It was hard to leave a place as especially for me as a Holy Cross, but my family and I are very excited to come to Quinnipiac,” Sommer said in a statement. “I have heard nothing but great things about Rand, Joe and Justin, and I look forward to learning from them and continuing with all the success they have had.”

Sommer joins the Bobcats with a striking CV at Holy Cross, the most recent that Holy Cross has been since 2006 to help Holy Cross with the first AHA title of the regular season. The team also appeared in a few AHA title matches, also their first two since the 2006 season.

He accompanied at least one player in all three recruitment classes at the AHA All-smokie team and coached a total of 21 players for the All-Atlantic Hockey Teams, including a two-time AHA scorkampioen, Aha Player of the Year and Hobey Baker Finalist.
