Holiday for stock market: are NSE, BSE closed on 15 August for Independence Day?

Indian Equity and Commodity Markets remain closed on Friday, August 15, 2025, in compliance with the 78th Independence Day of the country. Both the BSE and NSE will be closed for all forms of trade, including shares, derivatives and securities loans and borrowing (SLB) transactions.

This holiday marks a planned closure in the trade calendar, which means that there will be no market activity in segments on the day. Investors will have to wait until Monday, August 18, 2025, for the trade to resume.

Apart from the stock markets, large raw materials trade platforms will also observe a complete closure. The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) remains closed for both his morning and evening sessions, where they put transactions in precious metal, energy and other goods.

Similarly, the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) will also be closed for the day. As the largest Agri-Commodity exchange of India, NCDEX deals with transactions in agricultural products such as oil seeds, pulses and spices, and the closure will pause all such market activities until the next trading day.

The holiday on stock and raw material markets will give market participants a long weekend, but traders can also take into account potential volatility when the markets reopen, because positions and strategies are adjusted after day day.
