Holger Rune gives an update on where he stands with his recovery

Holger Rune has given a very positive update on his recovery, as the 2022 Paris Masters champion says he will soon come off the protective cage and enter the next phase of his rehabilitation.

After suffering one of the scariest injuries on this year’s ATP Tour, an MRI revealed the 22-year-old’s Achilles tendon had completely ruptured. Since then, the Danish tennis star has undergone successful surgery on his Achilles tendon – returning to light calisthenics – and recently also hit a few balls while wearing a protective cage.

“The end of phase 2 is getting closer, 7.5 weeks since surgery. The boot is slowly coming off and the transition to walking in elevated shoes has begun. It’s super difficult to walk. but I’m getting a kick out of the challenge, enjoy your weekend everyone,” Rune wrote on Instagram.

Rune wants to stay active

It’s no secret that an Achilles injury is one of the worst you can sustain in professional sports. That said, it was clear from the start that Rune would be out for an extended period of time. The general expectation is that the former world number 4 will not see action in the first part of 2026. It also wouldn’t be surprising if he missed all of next season.

However, one thing is certain: the Danish tennis star plans to stay as active as he is allowed.

“You can’t stay in bed because you’re afraid of falling. You have to stay within the limits of what you can do and improve and expand when allowed. You can certainly help the healing process by being active within certain parameters of each step of recovery,” the 22-year-old recently wrote in response to a fan.
