Hill ‘n’ Dale in Xalapa announced on August 14 that they have acquired a half interest in reigning Horse of the Year Thordedo Anna .
Last year, the McPeek McPeek, trained by Kenny McPeek, fell to the power of her victories in the Kentucky Oaks (G1) and Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) for owners Brookdale Racing, Mark Edwards, Judy Hicks and Sherri McPeek’s Magdalena Racing. The daughter of Fast Anna Ran also a brave second when they matched men in the 2024 Travers Stakes (G1) Saratoga Race Course.
Hicks breeded the final six-time degree 1 winner, who bought McPeek at an auction for $ 40,000 in 2022 from the phasig-tipton Kentucky October yearlings. A few years later, her dam, the uncle mo mare Satations would be called the year.
“It is extremely rare, if not impossible, to get interested in a mare of this caliber,” said John G. Sikura, owner of Hill ‘n’ Dale in Xalapa, in a release. “Een paard van het jaar, uit een broedmerrie van het jaar, is meer dan een unieke grondstof. Een volleerde kampioen, Thorpedo Anna komt uit een stamboom waar ik bij betrokken ben geweest en respecteer als fundamenteel voor het moderne ras. Diep in haar stamboom zijn de namen van Cosmah, Almahmoud, Almahmoud, Almahmoud en de Grote Sires Halo en Northern Dancer die misschien ooit de grootste is.
“Kenny has managed her career to perfection and I am enthusiastic to be part of the team. We have a shared responsibility to expose our sport to a new audience, as such, NFL -SUperster and actor Marshawn Lynch takes part in the deal.”
Lynch was on site in Saratoga Springs, NY, last week and was seen when attending the Saratoga Sale, the select yearling sale of phasig-tipton.
Thordedo Anna will race for the rest of 2025 and hopefully again in 2026 if she continues to duplicate her brilliant shape, Hill noted ‘n’ Dale.
The Merrieveeulen is 11-2-0 in 14 starts with a win of $ 5,133,413. She is 3-out-4 this year, the most recently the Fleur de Lis Stakes (G2) wins Churchill Downs June 28. She also won the Apple Blossom Handicap (G1) and Azeri Stakes (G2) Oaklawn Park earlier in the year.
“It was a great journey around Thordedo Anna,” said McPeek in the release. “Judy Hicks, Mark Edwards and Sherri McPeek’s Magdalena Racing will retain their percentage of Thordedo Anna, and we are all delighted to continue with such a great partner like John Sikura and Hill ‘n’ Dale.”
