A graduate in Michigan Law School has written history by becoming the first woman wearing a hijab that is crowned the winner in a suburb of the Muslim majority of Detroit.
Ameera Hashwi, 25, from Dearborn Heights – a city that is known for its large Arab and Midden -Eastern population – was crowned Miss Wayne County 2025 on Sunday and became the first woman to win the title as he wore a hijab.
An important part of the competition includes selecting a personal cause or social impact initiative that each participant will defend himself during the parade trip – and, if crowned, during their regime as Miss America.
