The cricketer turned commentator further reminded everyone that the 26-year-old continues to lead the Indian team in Tests and One-Day Internationals, showing that the selectors have immense confidence in his potential and capabilities.
“It’s not a signal for Gill. He didn’t take his place for granted, but the competition is so tough that there are many players who can take that place and perform well for the team. This is not the end of the road for him. He is a great player with wonderful technique. I believe he will make a brilliant comeback, and we cannot forget that he is still the Test captain.” Harbhajan was quoted by India Today.
Harbhajan further spoke about Gill’s omission from the T20 squad and added that he understands why the selectors did not go ahead with Fazilka native in the team. The veteran cricketer remains confident that ultimately the right decision was made considering the conditions and combinations for the global event.
“I listened to Ajit Agarkar and Captain Suryakumar Yadav. They said Gill was ruled out because of the combination. Depending on the circumstances and the combination, they must have taken the call,” Harbhajan added.
