Cadillac has confirmed that F1 test driver Colton Herta will make his Formula 2 debut with Hitech next season, following his move from IndyCar.
Herta is part of the Cadillac line-up, but can only fulfill a testing role at this stage due to the lack of an FIA Super License. With F2 offering the highest number of points for a super licence, his move to the feeder series was announced last month, and it has now been confirmed that he will race for Hitech, with former Alpine team principal Ollie Oakes’ team having won races in every F2 season since starting in 2020.
“I am incredibly excited to officially join F2 for the 2026 Formula 2 season,” said Herta. “This is a great opportunity to develop my skills in European racing and measure myself against some of the best young drivers in the world.
“Racing on the same weekends as Formula 1 allows me to experience that environment first-hand and grow as part of the Cadillac F1 family. I am very grateful to Cadillac and Hitech for their trust and support and I can’t wait to get started.”
By joining Hitech, Herta will race for a team currently challenging for both championships in F2 this year. It is also a location that offers logistical convenience as Hitech is based in Silverstone, a short walk from Cadillac’s UK base on the same track.
Dan Towriss, CEO of TWG Motorsports and the Cadillac F1 team, says both Herta and Hitech have shown they can achieve success in the past, with the Californian looking to immerse himself in the European racing environment ahead of a potential F1 opportunity.
“Colton has demonstrated exceptional talent and professionalism throughout his career,” Towriss said. “His move to Formula 2 at Hitech is a natural and important next step in his development towards Formula 1. Competing in F2 will not only strengthen his racing skills in the European environment, but also allow greater integration with our team as he continues to support us with his testing and simulator duties.
“We are proud of Colton’s commitment to success in European racing, and we look forward to seeing him take on this exciting new challenge with Hitech – a team with a proven history of success in the junior categories.”
Hitech is enjoying a particularly competitive season this year, trailing current leaders Invicta in the teams championship by just 12 points, while Luke Browning is 27 points off the top of the drivers’ standings. Two rounds of the 2025 season remain in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
