Here’s our first look at Toyota’s new sports car

Update: Toyota has released even more details about the upcoming debut, including teaser photos of a billboard at Fuji Speedway showing the front of the new sports car alongside the LFA and 2000GT. The photos were posted on the car manufacturer’s X page (formerly Twitter). The story has been updated to reflect that.

It looks like Toyota has big plans in Japan next Monday. A teaser website suggests that the automaker will make several announcements across its brands, including GR, Crown, and yes, even Daihatsu. Toyota hasn’t revealed the details of what it plans to reveal yet, but the landing page does offer a few hints for us to read into. It says (translated):

“The sign at Fuji Speedway has changed. On the left is the 2000GT. Next to it is the LFA. And besides…?’

It links to the Toyota times YouTube channel for the live stream, but that’s about it. The company also sent out a few mysterious tweets showing a billboard at Fuji Speedway with a teaser of its upcoming sports car. We are curious precisely which Toyota will announce, but given this recent news it’s probably no coincidence that the company is mentioning the 2000GT and LFA.

On Monday we might get a first look at Toyota’s new GR GT3 race car, which previews the upcoming Lexus LFR. Toyota Racing president David Wilson previously hinted that the car would make its racing debut at the 2026 24 Hours of Daytona in January, which is less than four months away, and we still haven’t seen the racer.

The GR GT3 is expected to arrive on public roads before the Lexus equivalent, but on Monday we might get a glimpse of the sports car in some form. The luxury brand recently unveiled a not-so-subtle concept that bears a striking resemblance to prototypes we discovered during testing.

The company hasn’t revealed any specifics details, but the prototypes the automaker is testing have been spotted with yellow stickers, indicating a hybrid powertrain is likely. The battery pack is likely paired with a V-8 engine.

Either way, Toyota has a lot it can announce in just a few days. We hope to learn more about the GT3 and LFR, but the automaker may have very different plans. GR, Daihatsu and Crown are also listed. So, check back next week for the details.
