It is no secret that the WNBA schedule is tight This season. There are 44 games for 17 weeks for 13 teams, a scheme that has so far resulted in complaints, exhaustion and injuries – of everyone.
The season line of 2025 is part of the competition. That is what Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White reporters told before the victory of Wednesday evening against the Phoenix Mercury. August comes with a strong sense of ‘urgency’, she said, while teams started staring down the play -offs and potential championships. “I spoke about how the timing between games has become shorter and shorter in recent years,” she continued.

Average # days between games
2021: 4.03
2022: 2.81
2023: 2.88
2024: 3.23
2025: 2.70– Rebecca Lobo (@rebeccalobo) July 27, 2025
Unfortunately, White added, the way she sees is that “there is no good answer” on the schedule, in contrast to the challenges of the current situation of WNBA, the NBAs more navigable and explains: “When you are a NBA team with 30 teams, it is different from the Cadans of Games, because you have to travel.”
NBA teams can play considerably more matches in the same time zone, she added, while WNBA teams often go from coast to coast -back and back. “When we add more teams and you have more games at regional locations, I think that helps,” White suggested. “I don’t think it’s a secret that we have to expand the footprint and that we have to place a little more cadence between the games.”
She emphasized further. “I think that what we are now is a function of where we have been, and what we should look forward to is that expanding in all areas, and ensuring that we place everything, including health and well -being for players, first and as a priority.”
The latter is a competition, especially since increased attention is aimed at injuries throughout the WNBA this season or now it or not the speed of Injury is actually higher. The fever played last night without Caitlin Clark, who continues to come out with a persistent groin injury and whose timeline is expected to be in mid -August.
Caitlin Clark underwent further medical evaluations earlier this week, which confirmed that no additional injuries or damage were discovered.

“I don’t think there is a way in which we can continue to add teams to games in the same footprint – we grow,” WHITE noted. “And it is a natural part of growing. Some things we see are growing pains, but at the same time I think that when you grow, you have to continue to expand … and become creative in some respects. I think that is the natural progression for our competition.”
The WNBA will add two new teams – the Toronto Tempo and the Portland Fire – in 2026 and count 18 teams with teams in Detroit, Cleveland and Philadelphia by 2030.
