Star defender Dyson Daniels and the Atlanta Hawks are not on the same page when it comes to early conversations about an extension. This is according to the last of NBA Insider Jake Fischer for The Stein line.
According to the report, Daniels could manage an annual salary that starts at $ 30 million. That would be similar to what teammate Jalen Johnson received and Orlando received Magic Guard Jalen Suggs last season. Both have signed five -year -old deals around $ 150 million.
The Fischer report also indicates that there are at least three teams that can meet Daniels’ requirements in the low season of 2026.
The Australian guard has emerged as an elite defender and led the competition in Steals this last season. He won the most improved player prize and finished second in Defensive Player of the Year votes.
Daniels ended the 2024-25 season with an average of 14.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 3.0 Steals in 76 games. It was his first season for the Hawks after playing his first two seasons with the New Orleans Pelicans.
New Orleans selected Daniels Eighth General in the 2022 NBA concept. He was traded in a deal that Dejounde Murray returned.
Daniels may have to prove the value to Hawks
There is certainly a considerable value in what Daniels has provided in the regular season. Especially as a combination in addition to Trae Young, he reduces a lot of worries that can exist with a less defensive guardian.
Fischer reported that the Hawks may want to see how many Daniels the lack of a reliable sweater influences his actual value. The Hawks are expected to be very competitive this season, which should offer a first glimpse of Daniels in a play -off setting with an extensive role.
Daniels is a career 32.7 percent 3-point shooter at 2.3 attempts per game. He showed marginal improvement last season and shot 34 percent at 3.1 attempts.
The acquisition of guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker also gives the Hawks a little insurance and leverage in negotiations.
