Montreal Canadiens Rookie Sensation Lane Hutson was one of the biggest surprises that the Olympic Orientation Camp -Roster of Team USA had remained – and his father’s reaction called on even more drama by talking about the snub and suggested that his son could jump to Team Canada.
Rob Hutson, who was born in Canada, suggested that his son could explore playing for Team Canada in the future. Lane has a double citizenship, which means that he could play for Team USA or Team Canada if selected and asked.
“You never know what will happen in the future. My boys are also Canadian.”

“Listen, you never know what will happen in the future. My boys are also Canadian. So there is an absolute luxury there,” Said Rob on the Habscast -Warjes. “Many great players have been omitted from the selection for Olympic Games and things like that. I think Brett Hull may have been one of them, he voted with his feet … There are all types of scenarios.”
While the Rookie season of Hutson was spectacular – six goals, 60 assists and the Calder trophy such as NHL Rookie of the year – USA Hockey left him from the summer cam list, including 16 other defenders. It was a shock for many, even if there was any admission by analysts that his defensive game might not be where it should be for an Olympic team.
According to NHL insider Marco d’Amico, the decision was not necessarily permanent. Hutson skipped the world championships, an important benchmark for national team evaluators, and Team USA may have felt that the depth was already covered with attacking defenders such as Quinn Hughes.
“The selection is not decided there,” a source said Rg.org. “When Hutson goes out and does what he did last season, he still has the chance to make the Olympic schedule.”
Fans respond to the father of Hutson in essence threatening team USA
Fans did not prevent this from weighing online. Some spotted the suggestion that he could crack the stacked blue line of Team Canada, while others defended the 20-year-old as a player with “the IT factor” who earned an invitation.
One fan noticed: “He said nothing wrong,” while the other wrote: “The Hutson boys must curtail their father and tell him to close the F – up.”
For now, the debate is less about Hutson’s talent – and more about whether the words of his father have added unnecessary pressure to an already sensitive situation.
