That iconic injury-time winner against Olympique Lyonnais in last season’s Europa League cemented Harry Maguire’s place in Manchester United folklore.

He had won the trust of Ruben Amorim with his performances, both at the back and even up top, starting in almost 70 percent of the games under the head coach.

This season, however, the Portuguese tactician has called on Leny Yoro more often, with the former captain making just two Premier League starts.

That has of course led to rumors of an impending departure, with Saudi Pro League clubs circling the centre-back, whose contract expires next summer. He is free to discuss a possible departure from January with clubs outside England.

Saudi clubs are chasing Harry Maguire

However, the former Sporting CP boss is reluctant to lose the Englishman’s experience, and as reported by The People’s PersonThe club has opened talks about a new deal.

And according to The Manchester Evening NewsShould the club offer him a new contract, the 32-year-old is willing to reject Saudi advances in favor of staying at Old Trafford, provided the conditions are right.

This new contract is likely to be his last at the top level, and with the likes of Al-Nassr and Al-Ettifaq willing to pay him £500,000 per week, Harry Maguire will want to ensure that both he and United are on the same page.

He is unlikely to take a pay cut, and will also want to remain central to the head coach’s plans. And both make sense.

“Harry Maguire is prepared to turn down big contract offers from Saudi Arabia if Manchester United offer him a new contract.

England international Maguire is out of contract at Old Trafford in June and has become a target for Saudi teams Al-Nassr and Al-Ettifaq. A move to the former would link him up with ex-United team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo.

Maguire willing to stay provided “conditions are right”

“Maguire, 33 in March, is free to open talks with potential new clubs in January. And a move to Saudi Arabia could earn him a deal worth around £500,000 a week. Given it is likely to be the last lucrative move of his career, such an offer is not without its temptations.”

“But United are considering giving the defender a contract extension. Talks will take place in the coming weeks. Maguire – who was ruthlessly dumped and stripped of the United captaincy by former boss Erik ten Hag – will want reassurance that the deal is good for him.

“As he commits his future to United, he wants to be sure he will remain an integral part of the club’s plans, whoever the manager is.”

Now it is up to INEOS to close the deal. Regardless of whether Maguire stays, United will need a quicker, more agile presence at the back going forward.
