Houston, Texas (Ktrk) – An arrest was made weeks after the Houston police said that a teenager was shot while he buried his Pet -Cavia.
Researchers say that Emmanuel Menshaca was admitted to hospital after he was shot behind his house on Belgard in the southeast of Houston.
More than a month later it appears that court reports now show that his accused shooter is in custody.
While researchers are still trying to find a motive–the Mencaca family tells ABC13 that they do not understand why the police slowly arrest their neighbor John Martin Dixon, who is accused of shooting their beloved and to say that they want the charges to be upgraded against him by aggravated abuse.
“I am not satisfied with the charges. I had preferred a higher indictment,” said the mother of the victim Andrea Mencaca. “Let’s not forget that my son was in the hospital for 17 days in the ICU.”
Andrea Menshaca almost lost her son Emmanuel on July 17. She told the ABC13 then. Doctors called his survival story a miracle.
More than a month later, he lives to tell the story as his family desperately looking for accountability and justice.
The police say that the man who is accused of shooting Emmanuel, John Martin Dixon, is now in custody.
“My children should never have gone through what they were doing,” Andrea said. “We are here today to look for justice. Why did this happen?”
The menchacas were frustrated for weeks.
The police say the shooting took place on July 17.
Judicial documents show that the Night of Shooting Researchers found the gun and interviewed the father of Dixon. The next day, the police say that Mencaca Dixon positively identified as the shooter in a photooline -up.
The office of the public prosecutor says that they received the case of law enforcement on 8 August and filed the charges the same day.
Court reports show that Dixon had a judicial appearance where he did not go on 11 August.
And more than a month after the shooting, Dixon was custody on Monday, August 25, on two points of worsened attack in connection with the shooting.
“We just feel numb at the time,” said Andrea.
When asked about the timeline of this case, HPD says that they have conducted a thorough investigation.
The police did not say how Dixon was custody after more than a month.
“The process, although incredibly frustrating for survivors and their families always worked here. We could ensure that we had the strongest thing we could have before we moved,” said Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare. “We had to make sure that we had ballistics because the testimony of eyewitnesses is very important and great, but you always want to be able to cohobize with physical evidence … We could do that at the beginning of August. The law enforcement agency was.”
Teare says on this point that they do not know the motive for the shooting. Andrea has told ABC13 in the past that their family has never had a problem with their neighbors.
“We may never know the motive behind the crime, but you will always strive to get that, so we look at it and if we can determine what it is, charges may be upgraded,” Da said Teare.
Dixon is held in the prison of Harris County. His next lawsuit is in October.
