Lewis Hamilton will receive a grid penalty with five places for the Italian Grand Prix because he does not sufficiently leave his speed under yellow flags prior to the Dutch Grand Prix.
Raced director Rui Marques imposed a double spotted yellow flag area in the last corner because of the bank -like nature of the turn that could lead to drivers at high speed with staff on the schedule. Team members gather at the back of the grid to collect cars after their reconnaissance rounds priority, but most drivers will roast several laps and thereby run through the pit lane.
Hamilton turned out not to have delayed enough in that sector twice, while the stewards were also unhappy with his speed in the Pitlane – with the entrance overlapping the back of the grid. After an investigation after the race, he was punished for Ferrari’s home race in Monza next weekend.
“Due to the nature of the track, the racing director had informed all participants that the last corner before the Pitlane would have waved double yellow flags. This was to guarantee the safety of that on the schedule and in the Pitlane.
“The instructions require that every driver who passes a double sly -yellow flag marching sector reduces the speed considerably … ‘We have viewed the available telemetry within the FIA system. We also asked the team to provide us with their telemetry data. All this took some time and this decision was delayed.
“Moreover, Article 44.1 requires that all drivers who cover more than one reconnaissance round drive the Pit -Try -road with ‘strongly reduced speed’.
“The data showed that the driver the double yellow sector was about 20 km / h lower than his speed at the same point in the practical sessions, had reduced the gas valve application in the order of 10 to 20 percent and was lifted 70 meters earlier and baked when entering the pit strip.
“We did not consider that a speed reduction of 20 km / h with a double waved yellow sector formed the speed ‘considerably’. We also did not consider the speed with which the driver entered the Entry Road as a ‘very’ reduced speed. ‘
The usual fine for such an infringement is a drop of 10 grid positions, but the stewards considered the fact that Hamilton had made an attempt to reduce his speed as mitigating circumstances, so only a grid of five places imposed it.
Each fine could not be applied to Hamilton’s race result in Zandvoort, while he retired early, crashed after walking in turn 3 in moist circumstances.
