In the past 20 years, various drivers have arrived in Ferrari as world champions, so as not to replicate their success for the full horse. Lewis Hamilton says he is determined to break that line.
Since Ferrari won a driver’s championship with Kimi Raikkonen in 2007 for the last time, the Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel team has bought – Plus Raikkonen for a second stint – as world champions who have joined their championship hose. Hamilton said that the two -week break since the last race has allowed him to perform several meetings with Ferrari staff, including delivering documents to the team for discussion and feedback regarding what he thinks he should be successful.
“The reason for this is that I see an enormous amount of potential within this team,” said Hamilton, who won his record-similar seven world championships with McLaren and Mercedes.
“The passion – nothing comes close. But it is a huge organization and there are many moving parts. And not all of them shoot at all the cylinders they have to be.
“That is ultimately the reason why the team did not have the success that I think it deserves. So I feel that it is my job to definitely challenge every area, to challenge everyone in the team – especially the boys who are at the top who make the decisions.
“If you look at the team for the past 20 years, they have had great drivers: Kimi, Fernando, Sebastian – all world champions. However, they have not won a world championship [since 2007]. And I refuse that that is the case with me.
“So I go one step further. I was lucky to have had experiences in two other great teams. Although things are different because there is a different culture and everything, I think that if you always take the same path, you get the same results. So I just challenged certain things.
“They have been incredibly responsive. We have improved in so many areas of marketing, by everything we deliver for sponsors, the way the engineers continue to work. There are still many improvements to make, but they have been very responsive. In the end I just try to create allies within the organization and get them.
“I am here to win. It is a crunch -time. I really believe in the potential of this team. I really believe they can win several world championships. They already have a great legacy. But during my time that is my only goal.”
Ferrari arrives in the Belgian Grand Prix with a new rear -wheel suspension that ran in Mugello during a film day last week, and although Hamilton says that little can be learned in that scenario, he believes that the sprint format can also fully delay the team that the size of the profit fully understands.
“We can test the suspension tomorrow, and I am sure there will be information from it,” he said. “We will find out how to refine and try to extract its performance. There is no difference on the simulator. But I am sure that there are benefits in different circuits.
“For me, the positive thing is coming on the film day where you see new pieces coming. You see that we are gaining development. Because we generally had an improved floor in Bahrain. Then it was a long time before we got an upgrade-I think it was Austria. And Tempo-Wijs, it was not necessary we would have.
“If you look at some of the other teams, they bring small pieces every weekend, such as Red Bull often do or Mercedes, for example. While they look more like big chunks. So I was just very happy to see that there is clearly a big push back to see and they have this weekend.
“We don’t have a lot of time, so you have to double. You have to ensure that you get so much information from both cars. You have to do the entire session. If it is wet, then that is really pain in you. But in terms of refining the car, it is very unlikely that we will fully optimize this during this weekend.
