Jamie Carragher believes that Manchester City Striker Erling Haaland is the biggest goal scorer -Engine football that has ever seen.
Haaland scored the winner when City claimed a 1-0 victory over Brentford on Sunday, his ninth goal in only seven Premier League matches this season. In 2025/26, the Norwegian scored 18 goals in all matches for Club and Country, in just 11 games.
On only 25, Haaland is already the record scorer of Norway and it has risen to the ninth of the top scorers of all time in the European Cup/Champions League. He is also only six goals of achieving 100 in the Premier League, and has 20 games to break the record of Alan Shearer as the fastest to reach a century in the division.
Former Liverpool -defender Carragher believes that Haaland is different from everything we have seen before in the English game.
“He can achieve what he wants. He will break every record that we have in this country about goals, if he stays here for the length of his contract. I think he will have eight or nine years left,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“When I kept an eye on him today and the beginning he made this season, the way he started this season. I think we are looking at the biggest goal scorer to play football ever in English. I clearly can’t remember that Jimmy Greaves and Dixie Dean, and all these players from years ago.
“But I am thinking of Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer, Harry Kane, Ian Rush, the big goal scorers. There is a difference for me, from a large center-forward and a great goal scorer. I think we are now something we have never seen in our game before.
“Don’t forget, this is a club whose goalheads were Sergio Aguero in advance, one of the largest we’ve ever seen. This is at a very different level than Aguero. He is the best.”
