Pep Guardiola believes that the spirit of Manchester City has returned, after goals from Phil Foden and Savinho led them to a 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town in the third round of EFL Cup.
Last season went for the second time without a big trophy for the second time under Guardiola, finished third in the Premier League, lost the FA Cup final to Crystal Palace and left the EFL cup in the fourth round against Tottenham.
Despite the application of nine changes to their starting line-up, City claimed a comfortable victory over the third opposition on Wednesday, so that one road to silverware was opened.
Foden opened the score and chose the bottom corner after a giving and go with impressive debutant Divine Mukasa, before the English international Teads Savinho in the second half is a powerful attack.
Against Sky Sports after his team was attracted to Swansea City in round four, Guardiola said: “It was a good one.
“It is always difficult, but we have played very well. They changed their form and we had to improve in our structure, but in general we did really well.
“We are in the next round, it’s good! Don’t take it for a matter of course. The Spirit is back in many ways. I am so happy. It was really good.”

City won four consecutive editions of the EFL Cup between 2017-18 and 2020-21, but they entered the game on Wednesday and lost three of their last four games in the competition (one win).
City fired 17 shots with a total expected goals (XG) value of 1.2, in which Huddersfield only achieved five efforts with a value of 0.2 xg and did not hit the goal at all.
But the boss of the Terriers, former goalkeeper of Manchester United Lee Grant, was proud of the performance of his players.
He said: “We worked extremely hard. We knew we should work hard. For us, the way we did that and how we were held together … I am proud of the boys.
“It is not easy, but there are numerous positives to take from our position. In terms of casual creation and big moments, we have succeeded in limiting them to a certain extent.
“We must be respectful for how good they are. From our perspective, in terms of working speed and discipline, I am very proud of our team.”
