The Cleveland Guardians mention left -handed Parker Messick as the likely starter for Wednesday’s serial final in Arizona. Messick, 24, was a second round from the state of Florida in 2022 and will make his Major League debut. He goes against Brandon Pfaadt against the Diamondbacks.
Messick, a 6’0 ″ Southpaw, has never blown away evaluators with his speed, but he has cut by Minor League Hitters behind an excellent change. This year, Messick only used about a quarter of the time in Triple-A. He went to his Fastball with four seam, which is between 92 and 93 km / h, half the time. He has both a sliding regulator and a curveball, which does not get any more than an average figures from scouts, and rarely uses a zinc shell.
It apparently has evaluators in its value. Baseball America And MLB -Pijpline Each arranges it between the 12th and 15th in the Cleveland Farm system and projects it as a stable back-end arm. Eric Longenhagen in Fangraphs Has him much higher, making him fourth under the prospects of the Guardians and one of the top 50 prospects in sport. Longenhagen projects Messick as an average starter and assesses the change as a potential plus-plus offer. Although it does not seem that there is a huge gap in his observed advantage, Fangraphs seems to be placing a higher value than the other points of sale about Messick’s main class -nabiness and success of the Minor League.
That is all the more where Messick has shown it at the highest minor League level. After recording 165 strikeouts between High-A and Double-A a year ago, he spent this entire season in Triple-A Columbus. Messick has submitted a 3.47 run average for 20 starts and 29 percent of the opponents of the battery people. He spent walks on a career-high clip of 10.3 percent, while on average he has less than five innings per start per start, but he worked at least in the sixth inning in six of his last seven performances.
Messick threw on Thursday for the last time, so he will work with an extra day of rest. The Guardians chose Joey Cantillo during the weekend, giving Messick a good chance to hold a rotation place for the rest of the season. John means a factor in the late season when he retreats elbow operation, although that can also come in long relief. For the time being behind Gavin Williams, Tanner Bibee, Slade Cecconi and Logan Allen in Stephen Vogt from five. The Guardians have fallen three games back in the wildcard photo after they have been swept by Atlanta this weekend.
