Her opponent in the semi-final is Colombian Emiliana Arango, who ended the Run of the Marina Stakusic in Canada, who had disrupted no. 3 seeds earlier in the day, Jelena Ostapenko from Latvia, 6-4 6-7 (6) 6-2, in a 2nd round meeting that lasted 2 hours and 33 minutes.

Stakusic recovered after losing a 3-1 second set of lead and a 5-2 advantage in the second set of tiebreak to eliminate Ostapenko for the second year in a row.

Arango is flowering in Mexico, and it is the second time this season that she reached the last 4 here, after she has made the final on the Mérida Open, a week after winning the WTA 125 in Cancun.

Her run in Guadalajara is equal to the best result of a Colombian at the tournament, after Camila Osorio had reached the semi -final last year.

Osorio, the 8th seed, fell on Jovic in the 2nd round, while Arango has improved her record this year to 4-1 against top 100 players.

“I played very well and I really want to continue at that level,” Arango said after her victory against Stakusic, which was arranged 155. “For the players it makes a difference to see the stadium with people, it gives energy.

From the start, Arango took control of the game and made Stakusic Run, who showed no signs of fatigue after playing her quarterfinals against Ostapenko earlier in the day.

Nevertheless, the South -American prevailed and got 3 breaks to take the opener in just half an hour.

The second was more competitive, because they both held the first 4 games, until Arango broke in the 5th, only for Stakusic to get herself back on serve immediately.

Arango broke again in the 9th match and drove to victory in 72 minutes, ended with 75% of her first serving in landing and won 66.7% of the points behind it.
