GST reforms to influence every citizen that cuts through regions and income groups, says FM Nirmala Sitharaman

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the recent reduction of the GST rate is a reform of the historical rate that will affect the lives of each Indian, in which income groups and regions are cut. Sitharaman spoke on Times Navika Kumar on Times Now that the effort cost months of detailed work with her team and will deliver real benefits to households, especially the middle class.

“Every citizen wakes up and buys something that GST has on it. A major overhaul of such a tax is not a small task. It influences 140 crore people,” the minister said. She added that civil servants worked “intensely for eight months” to re -examine any item under GST.

Even online critics praised gst -cutbacks

Sitharaman said she has taken criticism and social media in her pass, instead aimed at the long -term benefits of the reform. “There will always be difficult days and good days. You learn from both,” she noticed. Interestingly enough, she noted that even online critics, often called ‘troll -armies’, have praised the GST cuts, with some people call her ‘Nirmala Tai’ on social media.

The minister rejected claims that political pressure influenced the timing of reform. “If the pressure mattered, I would have given years ago. This was not a Tweak but a complete clearance, such as dredging a reservoir to give it a new life,” she said.

Sitharaman argued on the criticism of the opposition that the reforms were too late that earlier governments had not delivered in the first place. “It is outrageous to want credit where it is not due, and to awaken credit when a major reform has finally happened,” she said. She also recognized suggestions from governments and opposition leaders. Referring to West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s demand for tax reduction on insurance, Sitharaman said she respected all structural inputs. She added that she wrote to every Minister of Finance and thanked them for their cooperation in reaching a consensus at the GST Council. Sitharaman concluded that reform was not about politics, but about people. “This decision will really bring relief and cheers, especially for the festive season,” she said.
