The EuroBank in Greece sets up a representative office in India to tap the positive business momentum between the two countries.
“We authorized the end of last month of the reserve Bank of India for setting up our representative office in Mumbai. We are very enthusiastic about the prospect and we want to make it operational in mid -December,” said Panayiotis Chrysostomou, manager, banking services and representative offices, EuroBank Cyprus.
EuroBank, which has assets of € 100 billion, has its head office in Greece and has subsidiaries in Bulgaria and Cyprus. It is also present in Luxembourg and the UK.
“We are establishing a physical presence in Israel, Saudi Aarabia and the VAE too,” said Chrysostomou on Thursday at the ICC Global Business Summit in Mumbai.
The India trip from Eurankbank is surrounded by the tires between India and Greece. The India-Middle East-European Economic Corridor (IMEC) initiative is expected to further increase connectivity and offer financing options for lenders such as Eurobbank.
Last year, India-Greece-Cyprus (IGC) Business and Investment Council was set up to stimulate trade and investments between countries. Indian companies such as tour operator Thomas Cook and AI Solutions Provider Bentrique have set up activities in Cyprus.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Cyprus in June, indicating greater economic cooperation and the support of India in the current dispute with Turkiye.

In the meantime, Greece throws itself up as a gateway to Europe and wants to attract investments in ports and the energy sector.
Aliki Koutsomitopoulou, the ambassador of Greece in India, said that the feasibility studies for the privatization of ten ports are underway. Greece wants to become a regional hub for green energy transmission, with investments in the land and sea corridors. Non-stop flights from Indigo and Aegean airlines will strengthen business activities, she said.
“Cooperation between Greece and India has many layers. Of course, trade and investments are two of the most important pillars, but other sectors such as defense, safety, tourism and mobility are closely linked. The Greek embassy in Delhi strives to facilitate the need from India to Greeks Mankracht,” she added.
