Grandfather says: The Continuing Chronicles of Elaine, part 72

The following is written by my deceased wife Elaine. She really wrote a long book, a diary, from which this is a passage:

The pipe organ And The accident

One of the family members of Dave’s Patent Office -friend sold and installed pipe organs. He had plans to install a new Schlicker organ in the Agnes Scott Women’s College in Atlanta, Georgia around 1969, and the old Austin organ in the college would become Rommel. It ended that Dave bought it for very little, and he went to Georgia and dismantled the Austin and loaded it and loaded the metals and wooden pipes in a U-haul trailer, and loaded the very heavy blazers in Dave’s Scout Truck.

He drove behind the truck on his way home, and in North Carolina, while he stopped in a building zone, a semi-tractor trailer-truck came behind him and when the broke came a separate wheel of his trailer, hit the back of Dave’s trailer, hit the air in the air and collapsed and conquered Cabine and conquered him in the air of Cabine. The U-Haul driver was not aware of what happened until the scout rolled in the back of his truck.

Dave has only vague memories about this; He woke up in Duke University Medical Center and a police officer waited in the Chamber and he told Dave what had happened, and he needed the identification, address of Dave and other information.

Dave was held in the hospital until the evening and then he insisted that he could drive home that evening, although he was seriously hurt.

Weeks later, when he had problems with paraesthesias and neck pain, X -rays showed a broken vertebra. Dave says (Wang): “It is the best thing that has ever happened to me”, because it has eliminated him that he was able to retire early from the patent office and to do what he wanted to do for the rest of his life.

Now2001, the organ bench and a few very small, beautiful pipes are everything that is left of this big adventure.

So many other time -consuming projects have arrived since that journey that the organ has never been rebuilt. The bank, considerably higher than piano banks, is now the perfect “table” for my Kurzweil keyboard in the large room; It is the right size and has a handy plank for storing music.
