Despite the frigid weather that has hit Lexington in recent weeks, many of the offerings in Fasig-Tipton’s Winter Mixed Sale are expected to kick off the single-session auction on February 9.

One of the top candidates is the grade 1 winner Iscreamuscream . The 5 year old daughter of Spinning candy won back-to-back graded stakes as a three-year-old, including the 2024 Del Mar Oaks (G1T). She has been offered as a broodmare prospect by Taylor Made Sales Agency.

“It’s a little unusual to have a Grade 1 winner of her quality in the February sale,” said Mark Taylor, president and CEO of Taylor Made. “It’s not unheard of by any means, but normally a mare of her quality would have ended up in November. The plan was to keep racing her, but she had a little setback and they decided they would just go ahead and sell.

“She’s a beautiful mare, very stylish. She’s one of those horses where, when you see her, it all makes sense, like okay, she’s a Class 1 horse. She acts like that, she looks like that. She’s very well received here.”

Iscreamuscream was run by Agave Racing Stable, Little Red Feather Racing, John Hundley Jr., Marsha Naify, John Snyder and Stacey Snyder. Agave Racing Stable purchased a 33% ownership interest in the mare through Fasig-Tipton’s Midsummer Digital Flash Sale for $330,000 in 2024, prior to her Del Mar Oaks victory.

Iscreamuscream is a son of the stakes-winning Cozenne mare Silver Screamer, who is the dam of six racing-age foals, four of which are in the race, all winners, including the stakes-placed Desperate Man.

“The whole family has been very solid and producing across the board,” Taylor said. “Another thing I would say is that (trainer) Phil D’Amato went out of his way to say, ‘This is one of the best fillies I’ve ever trained. She was really special.’ When someone like him says that, it carries a lot of weight.

“She’s by Twirling Candy, a great stallion. She’s the best you can get from him, exactly everything you want from a Twirling Candy. She’s got balance, she’s got substance. She moves really well. I think when you breed Twirling Candy, she’s what you hope to get. She’s the best version of him.”

Although Taylor said this is not the ideal place to offer a mare of her caliber, he is confident she will be well received.

“We were really hoping she would be on sale in November, but we’re happy we have her now and I think she’ll do well,” he said.

In addition to her racing record, another selling point is that Iscreamuscream is presented with a nomination for Taylor Made’s great stallion Not this time . After beginning his stud career in 2017, the son of Giant’s Causeway quickly rose to prominence as a sire, most recently capturing two titles in 2025: leading grass sire and leading sire of 2-year-olds. He finished second on the overall list of leading sires, behind only the legendary In mischief .

“Not This Time has been full for a long time, but she is on his books,” Taylor said. “We decided that if the new buyer wants to honor that season, or if they want to go to another stallion, that’s fine, but they’ve saved one for Not This Time. It’s a good opportunity to get that access.”

Taylor Made’s strong players include stakes winner Pop Idol (Hip 361), stakes winner Candy Light (Hip 364) and graded stakes winner Stormcast winner of the 2024 Bessarabian Stakes (G3) at Woodbine.

“I think it’s going to be a very strong market for quality,” Taylor added. “We have a depth of about 40 horses, and I would say we have a dozen mares here that are exactly what people are looking for at different levels of the market – young mares, that look good and have a pedigree that would really suit one of these stallions coming off the track.

“We have several at the top, in addition to Iscreamuscream, we have Stormcast, a grade 3 winner, we have a filly called Dancing N Dixie, who has placed multiple stakes, very nice. We have a strong draft for this sale.”

As for the short yearlings, Taylor suspects the competition will remain strong. “I think they’ll be very competitive. It seems like it’s just been a slugfest since November, and I expect more of that tomorrow.”

Mia’s mother, shipped as Hip 397 by Buckland Sales Agency (Zach Madden)

Mia’s Mom (Hip 397) is another promising mare ready to increase the quality and excitement of sales. Buckland Sales (Zach Madden), agent, will offer the 4-year-old mare carrying her first foal Essential quality third place on the list of bulls from the first harvest in 2025.

The filly’s page got a huge update when her half-brother, Skippy longstocking achieved his long-awaited victory in the first degree in the Pegasus World Cup on Gulfstream Park. The 7 year old son of Exaggerate has earned more than $5.4 million during his warhorse career.

In addition to Skippylongstocking, Mia’s mother is also a half-sister to stakes winners and rated stakes horses Olivia Twist And Moonlite attack .

“We are very excited to feature Mia’s mother here at Fasig,” said Zach Madden of Buckland Sale. “For me she has everything: pedigree, appearance and pregnant with an exciting young bull in Essential Quality.

“It was great to have Skippy at the Pegasus (World Cup) last month, and obviously a huge step forward in an already great family.”

Madden said activity in the barns was strong despite the cold temperatures.

“I think the pace will continue. The quality offering will deliver premium and mid-to-lower markets,” Madden added.

The highlight of last year’s auction was the sale of Class 1 winner Unbridled Mo’s Curl Colt, which was sold to Maverick Racing for $775,000. Stakes winner Boxwood was the most expensive mare at the auction and was sold in foal Nyquist for $650,000, to Steven Young, agent.

At last year’s sale, 263 heads changed hands for a gross of $11,626,500, including private sales. The average price was $44,207 with a median of $17,000. Fifty-nine horses did not meet their reserve, resulting in an RNA percentage of 18.3%.

Maverick Racing led all buyers with their single purchase, and Taylor Made Sales led the consignors, selling 35 of their design for $2,529,000.

The sale starts on February 9 at 10am. As of Sunday evening, Fasig-Tipton had reported 76 outs.
