GOVT sets up a committee to investigate tax, export problems with the export of the production sector

The government has set up a committee to investigate the tax and export solution problems through production units and to propose measures to further streamline the system in the midst of high rates imposed by the US, an official said.

The Commission includes representatives of the Ministry of Finance, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Department of Commerce, Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) and the RBI.

It also has special guests of industrial rooms, federation of Indian export organizations, export promoting and consultancy firms.

The officer said that the Commission will investigate the existing export -related tax structures (both customs duties and export stimuli) and identify the procedures for exporting the export plates on the competitiveness of the production sectors and export performance, and if necessary suggesting alternatives or alternatives.

Moreover, the sector -specific challenges would identify in export sectors with high potential, such as engineering, pharmaceutical products, electronics, chemicals, agro and processed food, textiles, leather, gems and jewelry.

It would also study and recommend worldwide best practices in export tax and customs facility, and propose usable policy reforms to streamline processes.

The committee is expected to submit its report in two months.

Indian production sectors are confronted with problems because of the imposition of a steep rate of 50 percent for Indian goods that arrive in America from 27 August.

The high task will make India’s labor -intensive goods less competitive on the American market compared to those from Vietnam, Bangladesh and Thailand, who are confronted with lower rates.

The US accounted for around 20 percent ($ 86.5 billion) of the total goods export of the country of $ 437 billion in 2024-25.
