May 25, 2025 (MLN): In a groundbreaking step to transform Pakistan into a world leader into digital innovation, the Pakistan government has announced the allocation of 2,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity in the first phase of a national initiative to improve Bitcoin mining and artificial intelligence (AI) data workers.
This ambitious initiative is led by the Pakistan Crypto Council (PCC)-a body supported by the government under the Ministry of Finance-as part of a broader strategy to make money with the surplus electricity, high-tech jobs to attract billions of dollars for the government and billions of dollars.
Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb stated that this strategic allocation marks a crucial moment in the digital transformation journey of Pakistan, which unlocks economic potential by changing surplus energy into innovation, investments and international turnover.
Pakistan is uniquely positioned – both geographically and economically – to become a global hub for data centers. As a digital bridge between Asia, Europe and the Central East, Pakistan offers the most strategic location in the world for data flow and digital infrastructure.
Since the start of the Pakistan Crypto Council, there has been enormous interest in global Bitcoin -my workers and data infrastructure companies.
Various international companies have already visited the country for exploratory discussions, and after this historical announcement is expected from more global players to visit in the coming weeks.
The under -utilized power generation capacity of Pakistan is now being reused in a high -quality digital active. AI data centers and Bitcoin -my construction activities, known for their consistent and heavy energy consumption, offer an ideal use case for this surplus.
By destroying inactive energy, especially from plants that work under capacity, Pakistan can convert long -term financial liability into a sustainable, income -generating chance.
Bilal Bin Saqib, CEO of the Pakistan Crypto Council, emphasized the transforming character of this initiative. He explained that Pakistan with the right regulation, transparency and international cooperation can become a global crypto and AI power patient.
He added that this digital transformation-supported digital transformation not only unlocks high-quality investments, but also enables the government to generate currency in USD via Bitcoin-Mijnbouw.
In addition, as the regulations evolve, Pakistan Bitcoin can collect directly in a national wallet, which marks a monumental shift from sales power in Pakistani rupees (PKR) to the use of digital assets for economic stability.
By offering stable and affordable energy, Pakistan presents a very competitive environment compared to regional counterparts such as India and Singapore, where the rising electricity costs and the scalability of the land scarcity limit the scalability of the scarcity. The strategic benefit of Pakistan is further underlined by the global context: although the demand for AI Datacenter has increased to more than 100 GW, the global delivery remains around 15 GW.
This enormous shortage creates an unprecedented opportunity for countries such as Pakistan with surplus power, country and an emerging regulatory framework.
The digital connectivity of the country has also been considerably strengthened by the landing of the world’s largest internet cable in the submarine.
The Africa-2 Cable Project, a global network of 45,000 kilometers that connects 33 countries through 46 landing stations, has now landed in Pakistan.
This milestone improves the internet tire width, latency and resilience of Pakistan through superfluous fiber routes – the key to guaranteeing high availability and operational continuity for AI data agents.
With a population of more than 250 million and more than 40 million crypto users, Pakistan has enormous potential as a regional leader in digital services.
Setting up local AI data centers will not only tackle the growing concern about data sovereignty, but also improve cyber security, improve digital services and strengthen national opportunities in AI and cloud infrastructure.
These centers are expected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs, causing the development of a competent workforce in Engineering, IT and data sciences.
This announcement only marks the first phase of a wider, multi-phases digital infrastructure role.
It is expected that future developments into renewable energy-driven facilities will include the immense wind of Pakistan (50,000 MW potential in the Gharo-Keti Bandar Corridor), solar energy and water power sources-strategic international partnerships with leading blockchain and AI companies.
These efforts will be supplemented with proposed stimuli such as tax holidays, customs duties on equipment and lower taxes for AI infrastructure developers.
The combination of Pakistan of surplus strength, geographical benefit, advanced Subsea cable connectivity, renewable energy potential and a large, digitally involved population creates a mandatory matter to become a regional epicenter of Web3, AI and digital innovation.
With the right stimuli, strategic investments and cooperation partnerships, Pakistan not only positions itself as a destination for global digital infrastructure, but also as a sovereign economy that can accumulate digital assets, export digital services and leads in the next generation of technological transformation.
