Liverpool are reportedly in the lead in signing England international Anthony Gordon this summer if Newcastle United opt to cash in on the former Everton striker, The Mirror reports.
Gordon, 24, has emerged as one of Newcastle’s standouts since joining from Everton in January 2023. The left winger was a key attacking threat for the Magpies. He racked up double-figure goals and assists in the Premier League and earned international recognition with England.
LIVERPOOL‘s interest in the winger has resurfaced in recent weeks, with several media outlets suggesting that Anfield could be his destination if Newcastle decide to entertain offers.
Reports suggest Liverpool are currently “in pole position” in the race for Gordon, ahead of rival Premier League clubs including Arsenal FC. Sources close to the discussions claim that Newcastle would only consider selling Gordon for a bid of between £85m and £95m – a valuation that reflects the player’s status as one of the most prolific wide forwards in the league.
However, Newcastle United are not expected to make a decision lightly. The club recently awarded Gordon a long-term contract until 2030, underscoring its intention to build around him as part of Eddie Howe’s long-term strategy.
With the winger tied down to a long-term deal, Newcastle have significant leverage in negotiations and are likely to demand a substantial fee that reflects his importance to the squad.
Gordon’s affinity with LIVERPOOL– he is known to be a lifelong supporter of the club – adds an intriguing element to the speculation. Previous reports have suggested that a move to Anfield was on the verge of happening in an earlier transfer window before Newcastle opted to retain key personnel.
Should Liverpool increase their interest this summer and match Newcastle’s valuation, the winger could once again be at the center of transfer talks.
For LIVERPOOLSecuring a player of Gordon’s profile would boost their attacking options as they look to maintain their competitiveness in domestic and European competitions. Whether they proceed with a formal offer will depend on negotiations with Newcastle, financial considerations and the club’s recruitment strategy heading into the summer.
No official bids have been confirmed and both clubs are expected to assess their positions as the campaign progresses. Further developments are expected as summer transfer window speculation continues.
DOES KONATE DESERVE A NEW LIVERPOOL DEAL?
Liverpool are reportedly in talks with defender Ibrahima Konaté over a new contract, manager Arne Slot has confirmed, according to icfootballnews. The development has sparked debate over whether the centre-back has done enough to earn an extension at Anfield.
Ready to become a member LIVERPOOL joined from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021 and quickly established himself as a key part of the club’s defensive unit. Renowned for his physical presence, aerial ability and playmaking ability, the French centre-back has formed key partnerships at the heart of Liverpool’s backline in both domestic and European competition.
In a recent statement, Slot confirmed – ahead of a crucial Premier League match – that the club is in discussions with Konaté’s representatives about a new long-term contract.
The confirmation follows continued interest from supporters and pundits in securing the defender’s services beyond his current contract, which is entering its final years.
Supporters of the contract extension claim that Konaté was one of them LIVERPOOL‘s most consistent defenders since his arrival. His ability to win duels, regain possession and contribute to the club’s pressing system is particularly valued under the demands of modern Premier League football.
Proponents of a new deal also point to his injury record – relatively modest compared to some defensive peers – and his ability to perform in high-pressure matches as justification for the club’s commitment.
However, critics highlight that Konaté’s performances have fluctuated at times, with periods of inconsistency compared to Liverpool’s most elite centre-backs. While he is capable of moments of dominance, detractors suggest he has not yet consistently reached the level expected of a long-term defensive pivot at a club with persistent Champions League aspirations.
Liverpool’s wider defensive strategy under Slot is also a factor in the discussion. The club has invested in multiple defensive reinforcements in recent transfer windows, and whether Konaté remains central to this evolving blueprint will influence negotiations.
Financial considerations are also expected to play a role, as contract extension commitments must fit within the club’s wage structure and long-term planning. Renewals for established first-team figures typically reflect both past contributions and expected future impact.
At this time, discussions are still ongoing and no agreement has been reached yet. LIVERPOOL Officials have declined to comment beyond Slot’s acknowledgment, but further updates are likely in the coming weeks.
Whether Konaté ultimately earns an extension will depend on his performance in the remainder of the season and the club’s priorities in shaping a defense that can challenge on all fronts.
DUO TIPPED FOR THE LIVERPOOL EXITS
Former Reds star Stan Collymore has opened up and claimed that both Virgil Van Dijk and Mohammed Salah could both leave Liverpool in the coming transfer windows.
Both Van Dijk and Salah have not looked like the dominant force at the back, or the goal-scoring machine this season, and there has been a lot of talk about the squad needing a refresh at the end of the season.
There has been much talk that Mohamed Salah is in talks over a move to Saudi Arabia, and speculation that Van Dijk could follow the Egyptian star out of the club has not gone away, despite the defender failing to show any real desire to leave the club.
Now, amid all the speculation and rumours, ex-Reds striker Stan Collymore has suggested that both could be on the move soon. He told GOAL: “The rest of the season he will [Salah] will play, but for LIVERPOOL to continue and be Arne Slot 2.0, one or both of him and Van Dijk could well go in the summer.
“I know they signed longer and better terms, but I almost think that was to see what the players like [Hugo] Ekitike, Isak, Wirtz would be kind of an entry-level player. It hasn’t been good at the moment, they need them for the rest of the season, but I do think that if you are going to treat Isak and Wirtz as the new top guys at Liverpool, the old top guys have to go.
“I think part of Mo’s warmth has to do with the fact that Isak and Wirtz come in and they get 6,000 tweets saying ‘welcome Wirtz, welcome Isak, you’re the best thing since sliced bread.’ I think that makes him feel a little wounded and a little disrespected.
“The only answer is: can they all play well together or is the most likely option – and this is what I think – maybe Van Dijk will stay for another season, but I think Mo will definitely be gone in the summer.”
IcFootballnews says…
Look, Salah could leave at the end of the season, steps are already being taken about that, but Van Dijk wants to play for it LIVERPOOL As long as he possibly can, and until the Reds find someone to replace the star, he’ll be there for the next few seasons.
