  • Google is working on new functions for Google Translate, including a new AI modelmen.
  • The model selector allows users to choose between “fast” and “advanced” models, so that they can choose between fast translations or more accurate driven by Gemini.
  • Only English-Spanish/French couples have so far supported for the advanced model.

Google has been Working on various large new functions for Google Translate. These include AI-compatible translations, a redesign of the conversation mode and even a new practical mode that could possibly compete with Duolingo. All these contain AI in the foreground and Google has not yet been made with the changes. We have now seen even more onion changes that come to translate, in addition to a new model selector to have you selected the AI model for your translation needs.

We had already seen Google to add a button for the upcoming practice function. As part of the changes, Google would shrink the size of the speech button button and move to the right instead of taking the middle position. The bookmarks button at the top for stored content was then also seen.

Google Translate V9.15.114 contains code for more changes to the translation onion, which we have been able to activate prior to the release. In the future, a new row of icons will house the buttons for microphone/speech entry, handwriting and paste. This makes it easier to reach the handwriting and sticks with one hand.

As you can see, the resulting user interface will be cleaner, because pictograms are no longer littered over the input compartment, but will be placed in a neat row to the bottom.

In the screenshot above you will also notice a new model selector under the Google Translate title. This voter is also available on the translate results page.

This model selector has two options:

  • Fast: Optimizes for speed and efficiency
  • Advanced: Specialized in accuracy with the help of Gemini

The fast model seems to offer translations quickly and efficiently, but possibly at the expense of accuracy. It can work for fast and casual use cases. If you need more accuracy, the advanced model would be for you, because it would use Gemini for accurate results.

I don’t want to miss the best Android Authority?

From our limited tests, the advanced model currently only supports a few language pairs, namely English combined with French and Spanish:

  • English> Spanish | Spanish> English
  • English> French | French> English

These language pairs are the same that would be supported in the learning function of Google Translate.

Google must still announce or describe these upcoming changes to Google Translate. We will keep you informed if we learn more.

⚠️ A MOT Teardown Helps in predicting functions that can achieve a service in the future based on the operating code. However, it is possible that such predicted functions may not come to a public release.
