InterMiami are approaching the end of pre-season and starting to fine-tune the final details before the start of the season Major League Football 2026 campaign. In that context, an important teammate of Lionel Messi received welcome news allowing him to participate in full team training again.
“We’re told Tadeo has received his visa, and I believe he’ll get his passport today, so he should be traveling within a few hours,” Javier Mascherano said Friday during a press conference ahead of the trip to Ecuador for a friendly match Barcelona of Guayaquil, as shared by journalist Jose Armando on X.
The InterMiami coach meant Tadeo Allende. The forward was one of the standout players for the Herons during the 2025 season, especially in the playoffs, where he scored crucial goals that helped fuel the club’s MLS title.
After several weeks of speculation, Inter Miami agreed to buy his transfer rights from Celta Vigo for a fee of approx $5 million. Since then, almost three weeks have passed during which the player was unable to participate in training with his teammates due to administrative issues.

As a result Allende missed the first two preseason friendlies against Alianza Lima and Atletico Nacionaland he will also not be available in Ecuador against Barcelona this Saturday. However, based on Mascherano’s comments, it is expected that Tadeo will be able to resume training with the squad once the team returns to Florida.

Berterame also deals with administrative issues
Tadeo Allende’s case is not an isolated one. In fact, Inter Miami has experienced similar issues with two other players on the roster. Michaela signing coming from Palm trees to strengthen the defense for 2026 MLS season, was only able to start training with his teammates a few days ago due to the same type of administrative delays.
At this moment, German Berterame is in a similar situation. The Argentinian striker, who represents Mexico internationally, was acquired by the Herons in a deal worth approx $15 millionbut him has not yet received permission to play for the club on American soil.
“It’s a very strange situation. I mean, we have a player who can’t train with us,” Mascherano said this during the same press conference on Friday. “He trains alone in Miami, according to a plan we gave him.”
Yet the coach made that clear Berterame travels to Ecuador to take part in the friendly match against Barcelona. “The German is included in the selection. He cannot train with us, but he travels to Ecuador because he is allowed to play outside the United States,” Mascherano explained. “We can’t afford to waste time. We need him to be with his teammates to help with his adjustment.”
After Friday morning’s training in Fort Lauderdale, Inter Miami will fly to Ecuador later in the day, where they await the match against Barcelona or Guayaquil. The friendly starts at 7:00 PM ET at Estadio Monumental Banco Pichincha.
