Chelmsford’s own Evie Crowhurst proves that age is not a barrier for golf quantity.
In just 10 years old, the Junior member of Chelmsford Golf Club surprised the field on the Essex Schools Golf Handicap Championship, held in Colne Valley Golf Club, who claimed the title of the girls’ division in her debut performance.
Faced with more than 65 competitors from all age groups, Evie, the youngest player in the tournament, placed an excellent 41 points.
Her performance saw her top both the under-12 and under the 14 categories and finished fourth in general. It is believed that she is the youngest female champion in the history of the event.
Evie’s newest triumph contributes to an already shimmering junior career. During the IMG Academy Junior World Championships of last year in San Diego, she represented only nine nine and has several victories on the US Kids Tour over North, South and East London.
She also set up it on the US Kids European Championships in Scotland and has earned a coveted place in the Faldo Futures final in the Belfry during the British Masters, an event that was laid down of more than 1,000 participants and organized by six times big winner Sir Nick Faldo.
Under the leadership of her coach, former European Tour Professional Lloyd Kennedy, Evie has left her mark in Essex Junior, often as the youngest girl in the field.
This season she has placed in all four events, including two second place, a draw for the first, and a striking victory at Stock Brook Manor with a net score of eight under par.

Now that a handicap of 15 is playing, Evie’s Rapid Rise not only shows her exceptional talent and dedication, but also the growing profile of girls’ sport.
She hopes that her story will encourage more young girls to take the game.
“I just want to inspire others to try golf,” she said. “If I can do it, they might try it too.”
With her sights firmly in the future, the Golf Wonder of Chelmsford seems ready to continue to rewrite the record books.
