With 10 games behind them, the Winnipeg Jets (7-3-0) and Chicago Blackhawks (5-3-2) are separated by just 2 points in the Central Division standings. The two rival franchises share a common trait that has helped them to success this season (graphic via MoneyPuck):
As you can see, the Jets & Blackhawks starting goaltenders were well suited to start the 2025-2026 NHL season. Spencer Knight & Connor Hellebuyck will be chasing the lead in the Goals Saved Above Expectations category, almost neck and neck when they get into action tonight. Yet that is not the only thing the clubs have in common, as their shooting and scoring opportunities at 5-on-5 were not exactly ideal (graphic via MoneyPuck):

As we can see, both the Hawks and True Northers are near the bottom of the table in the Expected Goals%, Corsi% and Fenwick% categories, meaning the excellent grooming they have received has been a big reason for their win-loss records.
Continuing with the similarities between the American and Canadian Windy Cities, Winnipeg and Chicago are coming off a one-game winning streak, having won three of their last five games.
Time to look at the team details ESPN and see that the team and goalkeeper numbers are again quite close to each other:

From the looks of it, Winnipeg won’t be making any roster changes from their last game, so let’s see how PuckPedia predicts the lines for both teams:

Should be an interesting match tonight at the Canada Life Centre……..the old versus the young, the learned versus the inexperienced, wisdom versus energy, etc. Winnipeg has one of the oldest rosters in the league (will probably have the oldest one when he is fully healthy), while Chicago has a bunch of young high-end prospects like Connor Bedard, Frank Nazar, Sam Rinzel, Artyom Levshunovetc.
Of course, tonight is also the first time as a former Blackhawk Jonathan Toews will face the franchise that likely made him a Hall of Famer. So hopefully his teammates will decide that Thursday is a perfect night to play a full 60 minutes and help Captain Serious walk away with a win.
Two more home games for the Jets before they hit the road for a six-game trip… so if you fancy watching live hockey in the near future, grab a ticket for tonight (Halloween night at the arena) or Saturday.
At least the Toronto Blue Jays have a shot at a World Series title on Friday…maybe this forum will get a little busier after that.
Go blue jays!!!! Go to Winnipeg!!!!!
