For some reason Adam Fox became the subject of many discussions with dissatisfied fans. There was a good reason to be dissatisfied because the Rangers were waste and more of the leadership group was expected, including Fox. But that dissatisfaction led to strange arguments that Fox was not good and paid too much. But in a down year with probably only 1.5 fully functional knees, Fox still placed 10 goals and 61 points in 74 games during the corpse of Ryan Lindgren for the most of the season.
Adam Fox is a top three defender in the NHL. Point.
Fox, if there is something, will suffer from what I am going to call the Henrik Lundqvist syndrome -a product of his own consistency at an elite level, so that others can trivialize his oeuvre on the ice on the ice, because other defenders have from biter seasons that look flash on paper.
There are zero arguments in the “Fox is bad” rich that I will take seriously. He is in almost everything of the charts, and this includes a step back this last season. There is even a stronger argument that never really gets the chance to heal between his knee and the Rangers downright waste around last year, this was the best case scenario for Fox. At least on the ice.
Fox deserves so much guilt from the ice that the rest of the leadership core received for whatever was last season. Perhaps he felt that, as the youngest member of the leadership core, he did not have much weight in the room. That will change this year, because it seems that he is on the short list for the next captain from the team. The goal for this season is a “return to form” on the ice and a more active leadership role of the ice.
