Australia veteran all-rounder Glenn Maxwell Is completely ready to make a 50-over-return, but not in national colors. Only a few months after he officially retired from ODIs, the 36-year-old in Victoria’s team was mentioned for their opening of two games of the Dean Jones trophy. The competitions, planned at Allan Border Field against Queensland on Wednesday and Tasmania on Friday, are Maxwell’s surprise back to the domestic 50-over.
Maxwell had called on his ODI career earlier this year after the Champions trophy, ending with 149 games, 3,990 runs, 77 wickets and two world cup triumphs in 2015 and 2023. His last ODI appearance came against India in the Champions Trophy. Despite the retirement, he continues to play in the shorter format and will perform in the T20i tour of Australia by Nieuw -Zeeland. The Victorian faithful has chosen the Dean Jones trophy as the platform to refine his game.
Matt Short also makes his 50-over-backkeer
In particular, the cricket player can hardly be seen on the list of a cricket at the domestic level in recent years. Since March 2022 he has only been playing one 50-over match for Victoria, who came to New South Wales in October 2023. In the meantime, he is not the only Australian international to make a comeback. Colleague T20i-Squadlid Matt Short also plays in Victoria’s 14-player team. Short has been put aside since July with a side injury that forced him from the T20i tour through the West -India and later the South Africa series. Just like Maxwell, he has not played a 50-over match since the Champions Trophy.
Victoria will initially be led by all -rounder Will Sutherland in the first game. Sutherland, however, will then leave for India to become a member of the Australia a team, after which Veterengeslag Peter Handscomb will take over as captain for the second game. The team also has Marcus Harris, Sam Harper and Tom Rogers.
Victoria’s opponents, Queensland, become the leader by Marnus Labuschagne. They will miss Usman Khawaja, who is preparing for the Sheffield shield for the ashes, while Bowlers Xavier Bartlett and Mark Steketee are not available either.
Victoria Squad:
Will Sutherland, Peter Handscomb, Blake MacDonald, Callum Stow, Cam McClure, David Moody, Glenn Maxwell, Harry Dixon, Marcus Harris, Matt Short, Mitch Perry, Sam Elliott, Sam Harper, Tom Rogers
