Many hours in the studio preceded this work. Cutting, grinding, pigmenting, burning. And now it has been installed and delivered! Every speed bump gave me a lump in the stomach when we drove to Sthlm, think if something would break! I made a bunch of extra glass just in case something happened, but I can’t get it twice.
Color testing and more color testing before I was satisfied with the shades. Then it was time to pigment the glass

Many ovens have already burned

The frames are packaged and ready for shipping

Many steel sticks are cut and bent

It was not only carefully packaged, but also photographed and documented. Both product images and video material where I can better demonstrate my thoughts behind the installation. It’s like a reel on Instagram HERE

In this project I explore the possibilities of glass in a more in-depth way. With transparent layers of color pigments that change the reflections of the different surfaces of the glasses
My studio is big enough to accommodate 3 and 3 of them, so we did that. So here I still hadn’t seen all 9 together as a whole. Considering how big the exhibit halls are, I felt nervous that it wouldn’t look great enough once it was there. Each part is 1 meter long, so I knew the total would be at least 3 meters long + the width between the beams.

Max has been in the studio most of the time

Here they only hang in the cables and not in their wires that are in the real installation.

What I like is how differently they reflect light depending on which side of the glass you see

On one side, light dances across the glass resting on mirror-like water, while the other side boasts a rough and irregular surface that breaks up the reflections in different directions
Once in place.
We packed well and when we arrived everything was as it should be and nothing was broken. We didn’t know exactly how high it would hang, so we had to hang wire twice to allow for flexible installation. After careful measurements in the scissor lift we could start cutting wires (good for Sverker, without him it wouldn’t assemble so smoothly <3) and start attaching to the correct lengths.

Once everything was ready, it was time to start hanging and installing the glass. The most convenient thing was to hang the frames on the scissor lift, mount the glass there and then carefully drive up, pull the wire over the beam and then attach it to the other side. I stood there and held my breath for the first 3. But everything went according to plan and Sverker and the exhibition installer fixed everything without any problems!

Joni came by with his grandmother to say hello, pick up our car and go to Norrtälje

Once all 9 were in place, we were busy adjusting everything so that it looked straight and centered from all angles. Then it was clear and settled and I could finally exhale.

Glass installation Torchesfumed glass, aluminum and steel. Amanda Malm 2025
In 2020 I started working artistically with glass, with a technique called glass fusing. Since its founding, I/she have been very fascinated by glass as a material. How it forms in the heat, and what to do with it within its confines, and last but not least how the glass reflects light.
In this project I explore the possibilities of glass in a more in-depth way. With transparent layers of color pigments that change the reflections of the different surfaces of the glasses. On one side the light dances across the glass lying on mirror-shining water, while the other side shows a rough and irregular surface that breaks the reflections in different directions. The two sides are fascinating: the soft and the hard coexist – and we would like to see that?
The Flares installation is a modular system that can be scaled up and down to the size that suits the environment in which it will be installed. It consists of nine parts and will be displayed hanging from the ceiling of this year’s affordable art fair in Stockholm.

Thanks to Affordable Art Fair and my dear Gallery Way Gallery who believed in my idea and let me do this year’s fair! <3
