The Austrian is at loggerheads with the club over its transfer strategy, which has seen the Eagles sell Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi this season, while big money has been spent on Jorgen Strand Larsen, Brennan Johnson and Yeremy Pino.
Palace have been in poor form since Glasner said he had been ‘let down’ by the club’s hierarchy, losing to Sunderland, Chelsea and Burnley in the Premier League, while they were held to a 1-1 draw by Bosnian side HŠK Zrinjski Mostar in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday.
On Friday morning, Fabrizio Romano reported that Glasner and the Palace board have begun “direct discussions” about his future at Selhurst Park. The coach has already confirmed that he will leave at the end of the season, but his departure could be accelerated “soon”. He has been linked with the jobs of Manchester United and Spurs, with both clubs looking for their next permanent manager.
Oliver Glasner has doubts about the future as Crystal Palace begin talks
Ahead of Sunday’s match against Wolves, Glasner admitted he is “not good enough” to match last season’s form with Palace’s new signings or to cope with the increased schedule.
When asked if he thinks he can lead the team until the end of the season, Glasner replied: “Let’s see. I always said: [this] – and this wasn’t the first press conference where I could easily repeat myself.
“Like I said, in the end you always depend on your players, and they will get all the support as always, and then we will see.
Glasner does not want to give a direct answer to the question of whether he wants to stay until the summer. “Let’s see what the future brings. You never know.”
When asked what needs to be done to ensure that he stays until the end of the season, he replied: “In football it is easy. As a manager you stay or can stay if the results are good. Football is about this and in recent months the results have not been good. The performances have not always been good and that is all.”
